Gondola and luge combos start at NZ$99 for three rides. Ziptrek's tours cost NZ$129 to NZ$219 plus the gondola, rising NZ$15 from 19 December to 17 January; its Kea lines reach 300 m and 70 kph.

Bob's Peak and the Skyline Gondola base
Both activities are on Bob's Peak, reached by the Skyline Gondola, which climbs 480 m above Lake Wakatipu from its base terminal near the Kiwi Birdlife Park. Skyline says each cabin takes up to 10 adults. The walking route is the Tiki Trail, about 1 to 1.5 hours with more than 400 m of climbing. Skyline asks luge riders to reach the base terminal at least 45 minutes before their session.
Ziptrek's tours begin at its Treehouse by the gondola's top station, and its prices leave out the gondola ticket. It suggests at least 40 to 60 minutes from the base terminal up to the Skyline complex, or 90 minutes at Christmas, New Year, Chinese New Year and in school holidays. The Moa and Kererū tours finish back at the Treehouse after a 10-minute uphill walk. The Kea zips all the way down the mountain to the gondola base.
The luge has two tracks with 1,600 m between them. The Arrow Track is the gentle one, with easy bends, tunnels and dips, and the Dart Track is steeper, with banked corners, tunnels and cuttings. Riders slow or stop by pulling back on the handlebars and let go to speed up, and a chairlift carries them back to the top.
Ziptrek's lines are gravity-run, so riders do not control their speed, and each group of 2 to 10 has two guides. The Kererū tour has 2 lines and a 21 m drop in about an hour, covering a third of the way down Bob's Peak. The Moa has 4 lines over 1.5 to 2 hours, the longest 240 m, at up to 50 kph. The Kea has 6 lines and 12 treetop platforms over 2.5 to 3 hours, with a 300 m longest line and speeds up to 70 kph.
Ziptrek calls one Kea line the steepest tree-to-tree zipline in the world and says it drops the height of 30 storeys in 10 seconds. The highest Kea treehouse stands more than 25 m up, about 8 storeys. The tour also includes a 20-minute walk downhill through native beech forest, which Ziptrek describes as steep and uneven.
Rain, snow and the 110 cm luge rule
Ziptrek says its tours operate in rain and snow as well as fine weather. If the luge closes for weather or another operational delay, Skyline shifts tickets to the next open session, but rides left over at the end of the day cannot be carried to another date. Skyline's posted hours run from 9:30 am to 9 pm for the gondola and 10 am to 9 pm for the luge, and it says hours change with the season. During site upgrades, staff lead guests through some areas on scaffolding.
Solo luge riders must be at least 6 years old and 110 cm tall. Children from 2 and 85 cm can ride tandem with an adult, and infants cannot ride the luge or the chairlift. Shoes must stay on and feet inside the cart, and cameras are allowed only if securely mounted. Riders must be able to sit in the cart unaided, and Skyline may offer a truck-and-trailer cart to guests unable to ride alone.
Every Ziptrek tour takes children from 6 and caps weight at 125 kg. The Kea sets a 30 kg minimum and the Kererū 20 kg, while the Moa has no minimum and lets small children ride tandem with a guide. On the Kea page, Ziptrek adds that a level of fitness is needed.
Skyline's ride bundles and Ziptrek's three tours
Skyline lists luge rides only as gondola bundles. Three rides cost NZ$99 for adults and NZ$68 for children, and the price climbs slowly from there: NZ$104 for five, NZ$106 for six and NZ$140 for unlimited rides. Child fares for the same bundles are NZ$72, NZ$74 and NZ$96. Holders of Skyline's annual gondola pass get luge rides at a discount.
Ziptrek's regular prices, which apply from 1 October to 18 December 2026 and again from 18 January 2027, are NZ$129 for the Kererū, NZ$169 for the Moa and NZ$219 for the Kea. Each rises by NZ$15 in the peak weeks from 19 December to 17 January. Children 6 to 14 pay NZ$139 on the Moa and NZ$179 on the Kea, while the Kererū costs the same for every age.
Ziptrek lets you change or cancel free of charge until 24 hours before the tour. Kea riders who show a gondola ticket at the Treehouse check-in get a stamp so they can ride back up after finishing at the base. Skyline ties each luge ticket to a 30-minute window for the first ride, and session changes depend on availability.
Before you book
Ziptrek hires out GoPros for NZ$49 and sends the photos and video after the tour; cameras fixed along the course also take pictures.
Pets cannot ride the gondola, though Skyline allows service animals.
Cameras and GoPros are allowed on the luge only when securely mounted; Skyline does not allow handheld filming.
Wheelchairs and prams fit in the gondola cabins. Skyline says the cabins sit level with the platform and that staff can slow or stop them so passengers can board.
